Woody Allen is filming in San Francisco after a 40-year hiatus and Twitter is lighting up daily with crew sightings. I had the good fortune of catching up with them on Saturday as they set up shop for another day of shooting at 14th and Van Ness in the Mission to film scenes that included actress Cate Blanchett.
What amazed me the most is how simple a scene their setup is here in the city and what little bit of yellow tape they need to unravel. Locals come and go, some stop with an iPhone to grab a shot, but for the most part, you can’t tell who’s in the movie and who’s coming back from the bakery with a loaf of bread.
Woody Allen and his team blend into the fabric of San Francisco like a faded fringe jacket — and the cops working the ‘movie patrol’ beat clearly embrace this assignment with open arms. San Francisco couldn’t be more thrilled to be the backdrop for the Academy Award winning Director’s latest project.
Allen is expected to be on location here through the end of August.
